The jazz ensemble, which has been performing for audiences at Widener's Chester, Pa. campus all year and was recently featured on WIBF radio's Sunday night three-hour FM jazz show, attempts to bridge the gap between the tradtional big band sounds and the sounds of contemporary rock music. The jazz ensemble will go on tour during January, Widener's month for independent study.

Newspaper: Delaware County Daily Times: Fife, drum corps wins trophy, 13 Aug 1975, Chester, Delaware, PA. 8 MARPLE - The Independence Fife and Drum Corps of Broomall received the Company of Military Collectors and Historians Challenge Trophy at the 103rd annual Deep River Muster in Deep River, Conn.
The award is presented annually to the most-authentically dressed unit attending the muster. The 12- inch silver Revere bowl will be in possession of the Corps until next July.
Last year the Broomall Corps received the award for being the youngest unit attending, having been organized in the fall of 1973.
The Broomall unit is currently playing at Independence Hall in Philadelphia every Sunday as part of the Philadelphia Bicentennial program, and will be host corps to two musters this summer. The unit has been invited to participate in the Old Guard Muster at Fort Myers, Va., next month.
Members of the corps are fifers Ed Boyle, Gilbert Burkett, Beth Chalick, Diana Colucci, Connie DePersico, Lou Federici, Jon Fitzgerald, Debbie Guttshall, Diane Guttshall, Sandy Guttshall, George Kusel, Bob Lamb, Paul Reber, William Serad, Kim Seymour, Roy Timpe and Scott Townsley. Richard Reber is both flag carrier and narrator.
Drummers include Mark Beecher, LJUi Beiduk, Steve Kirkpatrick, Ken Lamb, Tom Lang, Steve Lee, Andy Reamer, William Reamer, Jeff Virtue and Norman Willox.
