From a letter from Helen Hale Barnes: "Mother Bury decided it was time to decide on a church membership somewhere and the closest was Emaus Moravian Church. That's how they became Moravians and Helen met Charles Worman. In her 18th year they were married and purchased a home about a mile from the 2732 house toward Emaus.

Charles was a fine and energetic young man employed by the railroad with a goal to reach higher positions through earned promotions. The couple had been married less than a year when a R.R. official knocked on the door to say Charles had been crushed to death between 2 freight cars."

6. Newspaper: Allentown Leader: Charles Worman Killed In Train Accident, 17 Jan 1903, Allentown, Lehigh, PA. 9 YOUNG BRAKEMAN KILLED, SAD ACCIDENT TO CHAS. WORMAN DIED AT HOSPITAL. Charles E. Worman, a Perklomen brakeman, living near Emmaus, met with a serious accident Friday evening. His train, which is known as the Philadelphia fast freight, left Allentown Friday afternoon on its daily run to Perkiomen Junction. At Pennsburg, as the engine was pushing three box cars into the siding, Worman was standing on the front car and gave the signal to the engineer to stop. The air brakes were applied and the cars stopped, suddenly. Worman was thrown off the car and fell under the wheels. He was put in the caboose, and his own engine brought him to Allentown. Dr. C. D. Schaeffer was summoned to the terminal station and ordered Worman's removal to the hospital. At the hospital it was found that both legs were badly crushed and that the little finger was severed and he was otherwise bruised. He could not withstand the shock of his wounds and died shortly after midnight. The body was today sent to the home of his parents between Emaus Junction and Emaus. Deceased was a single man 26 years old, and was industrious and highly respected. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Worman. Besides his parents, Mr. Worman is survived by one brother, and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Shankwhiler, a widow, and Ella, also married to a Mr. Shankweiler.

Worman Of Emaus, 21 Jan 1903, Allentown, Lehigh, PA. 11 Both Legs Crushed - Terrible Accident To Brakeman Charles E. Worman Of Emaus -- Charles E. Worman, a Perkiomen brakeman, of Emaus Junction, met with a terrible accident last Friday evening at 6.15 o'clock. His train, which is known as the Philadelphia fast freight, left Allentown Friday afternoon on its daily run to Perkiomen Junction.
At Pennsburg the engine was shoving three box cars on a side track. Worman was standing on the head car and gave the signal to the engineer to stop. The airbrakes were applied and the cars stopped suddenly. Worman was thrown off the end of the last car and fell under the wheel, and had one of his legs passed over, severing it at the hip, and badly mangling one arm, and otherwise severely injuring his body. He was put in the caboose, and his own engine brought him to this city. Dr. C. D. Schaeffer was summoned to the Terminal Station and ordered Worman's removal to the hospital, where it was found that the other lower limb was also badly injured. On eof the little fingers was also severed. The ambulance stood ready and he was hurried to the hospital, where he died on Saturday night at 12.10 o'clock, aged 22 years. He was a married man, and left a young wife. He was a son of Edwin H. Worman, of western Salisbury, and is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: William, Mrs. Ellen Shankweiler and Ruby, living at home, and Mrs. Howard Wieder and Mrs. Orlando Stauffer, of near Emaus. He was married only about seven months ago. He worked on the railroad about two months, and wanted to start housekeeping in South Allentown, where he had already rented a house, but could not move on account of his wife's mother being in St. Luke's hospital, where she underwent a serious surgical operation of which she is not expected to recover, as the shock of the sad fate of her son-in-law may prove fatal. Deceased was a member fo the Moravian Church, of Emaus, of the Reading Railroad Relief Association, and of Washington Camp, No. 398 P. O. S. of A., of Emaus.
Coroner Scheirer on Monday held an inquest into the death of the deceased, and the jury rendered a verdict of accidental death. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from the residence of his father, Edwin Worman, at Emaus Junction. Services in the Emaus Moravian church, and interment in the Moravian cemetery, Rev. S. H. Gapp officiating. The deceased left besides his parents a wife, three sisters and one brother. His wife before her marriage was Helen, daughter of Hubert Berry, watchmaker, of No. 1222 Gordon street, this city.

Dubbs on Sept 4\super th\nosupersub 1881, confirmed Palm Sunday 1897, married Helen Bury Sept 2\super nd\nosupersub 1903. While working as brakeman on the Perkiomen R. R. he fell or was thrown from a car at Pennsburg on Frid. Jan 16\super th\nosupersub 1903 at 6:15 P.M. and died from his injuries in the Allentown Hospital at 2:10 the same night. Funeral on Thursday, Jan 22\super nd\nosupersub 1903, after services in the church with sermon on the text Hosea 14:9. Interment on our cemetery. S. H. Gapp, pastor." [Note: his marriage is given as 1903, should be 1902.].

10. Newspaper: Allentown Leader: Laid To Rest., 23 Jan 1903, Allentown, Lehigh, PA. 12 The funeral of Chas. E. H. Worman, the Perkiomen brakeman who died at the Allentown Hospital from injuries sustained while at work on the road at Pennsburg, took place Thursday from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Worman, near Emaus. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends. Services were held in the Moravian Church by Rev. S. H. Gapp. Interment was made in the Moravian Cemetery.
