  Noted events in his life were:

1. Census in 1860 in Pleasant Valley, Jo Daviess, IL. 1 Jno J. Bucher, [John], farmer, 60, was living with wife Anna, 58; Barbara, 19; Andrew, 17; George, 13. John and wife were born in Switzerland, the children in Ohio. His real estate was worth $2,000 and personal estate $700. The post office was Pleasant Valley.

Next door is Jacob Bucher, farmer, 35; his wife Catharine, 33; Adam, 10; Simon, 7; Joseph, 4. Also, Jacob Bucher, 19, farm hand, and Matilda Hoy, 26, house servant. Both Jacobs were born in Switzerland, Catharine and Matilda in Ohio, and the others in Illinois. Jacob's farm was worth $6,000 and personal estate $1,350.

Next door is another Jacob Bucher, farmer, 23, with wife Nancy, 24. Living with them: Jno [John] Bucher, 48, farmer; his wife Hester, 46; and Anna, 12; and John Jr. 4. Jacob ,John Sr., Hester and Anna were born in Switzerland, Nancy in New York, and John Jr. in Illinois. They had no real estate of value. Jacob's personal estate was $60 and John Sr.'s $225.
