Born on May 7, 1926 in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of the late Guy W. and Agnes S. (Eckert) Bucher.
He was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. Wally enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served onboard the USS Lenawee in the Pacific that participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the occupation of Japan. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and served in Japan and Korea. He was a charter member of Mechanicsburg VFW Post # 6704, Life member of VFW, associated with Camp Hill Little League during construction of the Little League Field off S. 21st St. Wally was a former member and Past President of the Camp Hill Lions Club and a life member of Lions International. A member of West Shore Elks Lodge #2257, Carlisle Country Club, and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill. He was employed by Capital Blue Cross from 1946 to 1959 and retired from ITT Communications in 1986 with 27 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene (Oberdorf) Bucher, two children, W. Stephen (Colleen) Bucher, Chocowinity, NC, and Linda A. (Stephen) Rosbert, Waterford, NJ. Four grandchildren, Christina (John) Waddell, Hammonton, NJ, Theresa (Jeffrey) Black, Hammonton, NJ, Brian Bucher (Melanie), New York, NY, and Amanda Bucher, State College, PA. Six great grandchildren. Two brothers, Paul A. and Lloyd W., Both of Mechanicsburg.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Warner and Evelyn Zrncic.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday October 24, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 2000 Chestnut St., Camp Hill with Bishop Guy Edmiston officiating. A visitation with his family will be held in the church on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be held following the service in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, is handling funeral arrangements.
