Noted events in his life were: 1. He has conflicting birth information of Abt 1778 and , , , CHE. 2 2. He immigrated about 1824. He may have immigrated in the year 1824 because the Michael Neuschwender allied with this Bucher family was born that year in the "Atlantic Ocean." 3. Census in 1850 in Richland Twp., Allen, OH. 2 Peter Bucher, farmer, 34, was living with Fanny, 29; Christian, 72; John, 31; Jacob, 18; Ann, 16; John, 6; and Daniel, 5. The four youngest children were born in Ohio, the others in Germany. Peter's real estate was worth $1000. 4. Obituary: Herald of Truth in Apr 1879. Feb. 25th, in the Swiss Mennonite Congregation, in Allen co., Ohio, of old age, CHRISTIAN BUCHER, at the very great age of 100 years, 7 months and 22 days. This, perhaps the oldest known Mennonite, was the father of 7 children, 32 grand-children, 27 great-grand-children, in all 66, of whom 56 are living. He was seldom sick. His natural strength was entirely exhausted; in his last years he was childish, yet at times he could recall scenes of earlier days. He was born in Switzerland on the 3rd of July, 1778, buried the 26th of Feb. 1879, in the presence of a large assembly. Funeral sermon by John Moser, from Acts 24:15,16. Christian married Christena Brekbuhl. (Christena Brekbuhl was born on 8 Feb 1789 and died in 1835.) |
