Newspaper: Evening Herald: Arrested at Allentown, 15 May 1899, Shenandoah, Schuylkill, PA. 17 Sepcial Officer Faust, of the Terminal railroad, Allentown, yesterday arrested two boys giving their names as Charles Farmsworth and Nathan Beecher, of Shenandoah, for attempting to sell shears and razors supposed to be stolen from a barber shop that was robbed. They claimed they were barbers looking for work. They were afterward released, because there was no evidence to hold them. 2. Census in 1900 in Mahanoy Twp., Schuylkill, PA. 18 The 1900 census recorded renting a home: William Beecher, day laborer, 54, born Aug 1846, living with wife Priscilla, 47, Jan 1853; son Nathan, day laborer, 14, Jul 1885; son John, 12, Jul 1888; son Alfred, 8, Jan 1892; and daughter Laura, 6, Aug 1894. William and Priscilla were married for 17 years and she had birthed 10 children, 8 still alive in 1900 (some of these were by her first marriage.) The parents could read but not write. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania. Their census was recorded 8 Jun 1900. 3. He served in the military on 31 Jul 1901 in Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 19 Nathan W. Beacher enlisted on July 31, 1901. 4. Newspaper: Republican Herald: Nathan W. Penn St., has received a card from his brother, Sergt. Nathan W. Beacher, with Co. L, 47th Inf., A. E. F., to the effect that he is now stationed at Adenau Germany, and in the best of health. Obituary: Tampa Tribune: obituary of Nathan Beacher on 7 Jul 1955 in Tampa, Hillsborough, FL. 34 Nathan W. Beacher, 70, a resident of 209 Hyde Park Ave., died yesterday afternoon in a Tampa hospital. A native of Shenandoah, Pa., he had been a resident of Tampa for three years, and was a veteran of the first World War. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Edward Kantner of Harrison, Mich., Mrs. George Williams of Shenandoah, Pa., and Mrs. Richard Parson of Elton, Md., and a brother, Alfred Beacher of Shenandoah. 24. Beacher, Shenandoah Heights, veteran oi 30 years of Army service, who died Friday in Tampa, Fla., was Saturday. Military rites were in charge of the Allen N. Mowrey Post 268, who also held services Friday evening. The Rev. Oliver Freidel, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Members of the V. F. W. Post, George Galgut, commander, who participated in the funeral service were as follows: John Salukas and George Wertz, color bearers; Thomas Kuchinsky and Peter Mirocki, color guard; Edward Remond, Felix McCullough, Frank Zecchini, William Zapolsky, Andrew Ocealis. and Boley Milewski, firing squad; John Koons and William Cosgrove, in charge of colors; Ernie Nanncers, bugler. Pallbearers, all members of Amvets Post No 7, were: Joseph Drozal, Joseph Domozik, Joseph Whalen, John Lawson, James O'Heam, and Albert Baker. Interment was made in the V. F. W. plot in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. W. Harry Waters, Shenandoah, was the funeral director in charge. Nathan married Susan. |
