1. Obituary: Boston Globe: Woburn victim's service is today on 4 Jun 1977 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. 3 JENNIFER BEECHER was to graduate (photo) Woburn victim's service is today Funeral services for 17-year-old Jennifer Beecher, killed in a car accident in Reading late Thursday, will be held today, one day before she would have graduated from Woburn High School. Henry Blake, principal of the school, said yesterday that graduation ceremonies for the 725 seniors would "proceed as scheduled." He added that a memorial would likely be held for Miss Beecher during the graduation ceremonies to be held at 2 p.m. on Memorial Field near the school. Miss Beecher of Pearl street in Woburn and four friends all of Woburn were involved in a collision shortly after 10 p.m. when they were returning home from a drive-in movie in North Reading. As they headed down Rte. 28, the station wagon in which they were riding was reportedly forced off the road and into a utility pole by a large gray car that sped away without stopping. Mary Bradshaw, 17, of Karem road, driver of the station wagon, was treated for hysteria; Janet Treacy, 17, of Rich road, for a leg injury, and Kris Sverison, 17, of Seneca street, for a broken nose. All were treated at the Winchester hospital. Pauline Scalley, 18, of Scott street, was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she was treated for undetermined injuries. Funeral services for Miss Beecher will be held at 3 p.m. at the Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home on Arlington road in Woburn. Burial will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. Rev. Nancy Klassen will officiate.
2. Obituary: Boston Globe: Brother Russell Beecher Accepts Jennifer Beecher's Diploma on 6 Jun 1977 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. 4 Brother accepts Jennifer's diploma --- (photo) Russell Beecher speaks at the commencement exercises at Woburn High School after accepting the diploma his sister Jennifer would have received. With him are the five other Beecher children. --- The clouds broke and sunshine shown on the football field behind Woburn High School yesterday as the graduation exercises were about to begin. The sun was a welcome addition to the ceremony. The death of one of the class's leading members, Jennifer Irene Beecher, had already dampened the mood of the usually joyous occasion. Miss Beecher would have graduated with high honors and had planned to study biology at Colby College in Maine, but died in a car accident Thursday. Funeral services were held Saturday. Before awarding the 723 dipomas, principal Henry D. Blake paused and asked the estimated 2000 people to stand in a moment of silence for Miss Beecher, "May she rest in peace," Blake said as the graduation ceremony continued. Miss Beecher's oldest brother, Russell, then climbed onto the stage. Russell Beecher, a Woburn High graduate and now a principal of an American school in Rio de Janeiro, accepted the diploma, saying, "On behalf of my family I would like to thank the community for the kindness and sympathy extended to us. On behalf of my sister, Jenny, I accept the diploma which she earned and so richly deserved." --- (photo) Accident victim Pauline Scalley, in wheelchair, listens to speaker at Woburn High School graduation.
