ASHLEY, age 87 of rural Anchor, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. The Reverend Melvin C. Blobaum will officiate with burial to be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and for one hour before the service Friday at the church. Mr. Ashley died Friday, 1-1-1993 at his daughter's home in Agoura Hills, Ca. He was born 2-28-1905 in Sibley a son of Leon and Elizabeth Nierstheimer Ashley. He married Rosalena Beecher on 6-6-1929 in Anchor. She died 12-23-1985. Survivors include two sons, Norman of Sibley and Wesley of Gibson City; one daughter, Sherilyn Bathgate of Agoura Hills, Ca; one brother, Francis of Miami, FL; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson and one sister. He graduated from Drummer Twp High School in 1925 and farmed in the Sibley-Anchor area. Mr. Ashley served as Sunday school superintendent at St. John's Lutheran Church and was on the church board as secretary-treasurer and president. He was a member of the Ashley County School Board for six years. He was a leader of the Burr Oak 4-H Club for 15 years. He also helped organize the S.W. Sullivant Twp Soil Conservation district. Mr. Ashley was a member of the Ford County Farm Bureau Board for 10 years and served on the Gibson Community Hospital Board for 20 years. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
