Bucher, 79, of New Market Street, passed away at 7:36 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late James Malone and Lulu (Miller) Bucher. On Dec. 24, 1948, he married the former Arlene M. Leitzel, who survives. Bob attended Mifflinburg area schools. He later joined the Navy, serving during World War II from April 1944 to May 1946 on the USS Idaho in the Palau Islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was employed by Weis Markets in the warehouse for 28 years, retiring in 1990 as a forklift operator. Mr. Bucher was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631, Selinsgrove, a life member of the Freeburg Fire Company and a former member of the Kratzerville and Hummels Wharf fire companies and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, maintaining his lawn and sitting on his back porch. He also enjoyed listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Gloria Bucher of Freeburg, Kelly and Celina Bucher of Sunbury, Darryl and Faye Bucher of Middleburg and Craig and Gay Bucher of Freeburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Frank Dietterick of Selinsgrove and Pam and Chuck Hoke of Freeburg; 12 grandchildren, Amy, Ross, Kelly II, Jonathan, Shawn, Eric, Crystal, Kimberly, Dean, Chad, Brandon and Tiffany; nine great-grandchildren; one stepbrother, Roger Oakley; one stepsister, Janice Oakley; one sister-in-law, Erma Smith of Selinsgrove; and his dog, Cocoa. He was preceded in death by twin sons in infancy; one brother, James W. Bucher; his stepmother, Anna Bucher; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Grace and Lester Leitzel; his brother-in-law, Robert Leitzel; and his sister-in-law, Alice Beaver. Friends and family may call from noon to 1 Saturday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, where the funeral will follow at 1 with the Rev. Dr. John Radke officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Zion Church Cemetery, RR1 Selinsgrove.
