1. Obituary: The Daily Item on 21 Aug 2008 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 1 Paul D. Harro SELINSGROVE - Paul D. Harro, 66, of Woodruff Avenue, passed away at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1941, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Leroy and Anita (Miller) Harro. On Dec. 30, 1960, he married the former Beverly Bucher, who survives. He was a 1959 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and attended Bloomsburg College and Susquehanna University where he graduated on Sept. 14, 1969 with a degree in business Administration. While at Susquehanna University he won a scholarship from Ernst & Ernst Accounting Firm. Paul was formerly employed by J.K. Supply in Hummels Wharf, and was the executive vice-president and treasurer of Snyder County Trust until 1988. He was controller of Excel Homes, a manufacturer of modular homes, until retiring for health reasons in 1995. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove, a member of Pennsylvania Bankers Association and past president of American Institute of Banking. In 1964, he was one of the founders of the DH&L Ambulance League where he also served as treasurer and as an emergency medical technician. He was one of the first EMT's in Pennsylvania. Paul went to Pittsburgh University on Aug. 6, 1967, to be an instructor for CPR and became one of only 60 qualified instructors in the United States, and one of four in the 10 county area. He taught others to be instructors for CPR training with the Resusci-Anne mannequin provided by the North Central Heart Association at Shamokin General Hospital. He was a Red Cross First Aid instructor and a life member and firefighter of the DH&L Fire Company. Paul also served as a Little League coach prior to and during his sons involvement, a cub scout leader, past president of Selinsgrove Elementary PTA, the Kiwanis Club, president of the Selinsgrove Softball League, the Snyder County chairman for March of Dimes Polio Drive for three years, served on Selinsgrove Borough Council as president, served on the board of the Selinsgrove Fair Association, and taught accounting in the Frackville and the Allenwood Prisons. Paul enjoyed attending Penn State football games and had an extensive collection of Penn State memorabilia. He also enjoyed flying model planes with the Susquehanna Model Airplane Club, collecting football cards and Lionel trains. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott D. and Kelli Harro, Keith A. and Donna Harro, and Brian P. and Ivy Harro, all of Selinsgrove; six grandchildren, Kristin Harro and her fiance, Craig Hollenbach, Nicole Harro and boyfriend Brett Ressler, Ariel, Kyle, Brice, and Caitlin Harro; one brother-in-law and spouse, Richard L. and Shirley Hummel of Northumberland; one niece and nephew, Natalie and Jeffrey; and his Aunt Helen of Northumberland. He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Harro in infancy. Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove, where the funeral service will follow at 11, with the Rev. Dr. Michael L. Stine and Director of Nurture, Lynn Schmoyer officiating. Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
