Iowa Police Take Into Custody a Man Wanted for San Francisco Hotel Robbery
NEW ORLEANS, August 15. -- His prodigal gift to a girl acquaintance of a large diamond ring led to the arrest at Franklin, la. of Peter Naro on the charge of stealing $10,000 worth of jewelry from a San Francisco hotel, according to reports reaching here today. Franklin officers are reported as saying Naro has confessed to the robbery and that they have found jewelry worth $1200 in his possession.
Three years ago Naro loved Miss Ruth Watklns of New Orleans. He went to San Francisco, returning here a few days ago. The girl is quoted as saying she did not care for Naro, but was persuaded by him to wear a large diamond ring.
Two days later he asked for the ring and later told her he had pawned it for $250. After Naro left, Miss Watkins reported the matter to the police. Naro was traced to Franklin, la. where he is awaiting extradition.
Accord to the local police detective bureau, Peter Naro is wanted here for the theft of $1200 worth of jewelry from the apartments of Mrs. F. A. Dillingham at the Alexander Hotel, 353 Geary street, on the morning of July 14th last.
Mrs. Dillingham, who is the wife of Colonel F. A. Dillingham, representative of an Eastern medicine company, left her apartments for about an hour on the morning in question. Naro, who was a bellboy at the hotel, is believed to have entered the rooms by means of a pass key and to have extracted the jewelry and money from a small safe. He secured a pair of diamond earrings, a diamond brooch and a diamond ring valued at $1200 and two $100 bills. Other jewelry valued at $2000 he overlooked in his haste.
Detective Sergeants Conlon and Mackey have been working on the case, and announced last night that steps will be taken at once to bring Naro back for trial on a burglary charge.

A. Dillingham last July in a local hotel, was returned last night from Franklin, Ia., by Detective James Mackey and booked on a charge of burglary. Naro freely admits his guilt.
He declared today that after he took the jewelry his conscience bothered him, and although he wanted to bring the stolen property back to its owner, he was afraid of being arrested. Naro was traced to New Orleans and later arrested in Franklin.
