Martin Luther Kugler, 33, a prominent citizen of Stonecreek, died Wednesday following an operation for appendicitis. He was taken ill Saturday night, and Monday at midnight underwent an operation performed by Dr. Charles Hamilton of Columbus, Dr. S. S. Shauwecker of Canal Dover and Dr. D. E. Rausch of Stonecreek. Mr. Kugler seemed to rally but began sinking Tuesday night. Death came at 8 o'clock Wednesday. Gangrene followed the operation and he suffered excruciating pain. Mr. Kugler was born on a farm near Stonecreek and resided in that city all of his life. Before the county was voted dry he was a saloon-keeper, since then he conducted a mill and his ice cream parlor. Mr. Kugler was a member of the Woodmen lodge, and clerk of Jefferson township and of Stonecreek village. He was also secretary of the bureau of vital statistics of Stonecreek, and acted as president of the Stonecreek bank. He was respected by everyone who knew him, a model citizen and a kind father and his death is a great shock to the community. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Kugler, and three little children, Ethel, eight, Lloyd, five, and Christena, two. Also by three brothers and five sisters, as follows: Charles and William Kugler of Stonecreek and John Kugler of Port Washington; Mrs. Amanda Ellwood of Joyce, Mrs. Emma Wagner of Port Washington, Mrs. J. B. Simmons and Clara Kugler of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Alice Kugler of Canton. His wife is prostrated with grief. The funeral services will be held from the Stonecreek Lutheran church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning and interment will be made in the Stone creek cemetery.
