Tailor and Active Church Worker Was in His Fifty-fifth Year
----
Harvey Kocher, from his early youth a leading tailor in this city, died last night shortly before 11 o'clock at the Allentown hospital following a stroke which he suffered on Saturday at his late, home, 821 Gordon street. He was taken to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Had Mr. Kocher lived until May 27 he would have been fifty-five years old. Born in Lowhill township, a son of the late Frank and Maria, nee Haas. Kocher, he learned his trade with his brother O. E. Kocher, at Fogelsville. Thirty-six years ago, at the age of 19, he came to Allentown and entered the employ of Shankweiler and Lehr as a coatmaker, a position which he held until eight years ago when he went into business for himself on Lumber street at the rear of his home. The same exacting attention which he gave to his work marked Mr. Kocher's relationship to his church and to the several organizations with which he was affiliated. For thirty years he has bene active in the affairs of Trinity Reformed church of which he was a faithful member and for twenty-eight years sang with the choir of that church. He was also influential in the Constantine Lodge No. 1113, I. O. O. F., the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the Knights of the Golden Eagle and the John Hay Republican club.
In November 1903 he married Sallie Knerr of this city who has been his faithful helpmate for the past thirty years. Together with his widow, there survive to mourn his passing one brother, O. E. Kocher, of Fogelsville, and a sister, Mrs. Herbert W. Peters of Pleasant Corner. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
