Charges of breaking 'and entering against Howard Beecher, 27 years old, Raymond August, 33 years old, and James Taylor, 33 years old were changed to charges of trespassing and each defendant was fined $5 in Municipal Court today. The trio was arrested last midnight in a saloon at 517 East Fourth street. Mrs. Mary Jahlonski saw the three men in her house and notified the police. A window was alleged to have been forced to obtain entrance. The complainant alleged that persons had broken into her place and taken cigarettes end food. Taylor, Beecher and August stated that it is a common occurrence to go into the house. They denied forcing their way in the property and stated the door was "wide open." Taylor is a former Councilman from the Fourth ward.

Howard F. Beecher Sr., 83, of 2006 Southway Drive, Carlton Court, Newark, died Sunday of pneumonia at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Elsmere. Mr. Beecher, who retired in 1975, worked in the maintenance department of the U.S. Post Office for eight years. He previously had worked as a maintenance man on the dredge boat USS Comer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by a son, Howard F. Beecher Jr. of Jefferson Farms; and two grandchildren. Services and burial will be private. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road, Garfield Park, New Castle 19720.


Howard married Mildred Virginia Truitt, daughter of George Henry Truitt and Sarah Rebecca Brittingham, on 10 Oct 1932 in Wilmington, New Castle, DE.1 The marriage ended in divorce.
