He signed a will on 18 Jul 1829 in , Frederick, MD. 2 The will of John Adam Reck drawn 18 July 1829 was probated 2 Nov. 1829 Fredrick County probate Court, exectuors were son John and friend, John Hiner. Son, John, renounced his appointment 2 Nov. 1829. Sons, John and Henry were requested in the will to live with and care for their mother, Catherine. An administrative bond was issued by the county probate court 2 Nov. 1829 signed by son John and John Koons, guaranteeing friend John Hiner's performanceas exector of the will of John Adam Reck. Inventory appraisal was filed with the court 4 Nov. 1829 by Thomas Metcalf & George geiselman, husband of Regina Reck, daughter of John "Jock" Reck. First and final account was filed by John Hiner 9 March 1830 and proved 16 Nov. 1830.

John William Reck, Sr. was born on his parent's farm near Gettysburg, Pa. He emigrated to Ohio with his wife and 10 children, 1 son, Isaac, having died in Adams County, Pa. in 1825. They left Pennsylvania 14 Oct. 1827 arriving in Ohio14 Nov. 1827 and spent the winter at the farm of Major Armstrong Campbell in Darke County, Ohio In the spring of 1828 they moved to the NW corner of Section 31 Adams Twp., Darke County, Ohio on the banks of the Greenville Creek. On the 14 Nov. 1828 he entered 928 acres in Darke County where he lived the rest of his life becoming a wealthy man in the county. In 1831 he erected a saw millon Greenville Creek near where a flour mill stood in the 1880's. In 1842 he and John D. Hershey laid out Gettysburg, Ohio named after gettysburg, PA., which was incorporated in 1866. John Reck became a member of Mt. Pleasant Pres. Church at Gettysburg, Ohio on 31 Jan. 1864. John and William Reck, Henry Weaver and Major Armstrong Campbell built the first schoolhouse in Adams Twp., Darke County in 1830 which stood upon the present site of the cemetery at Gettysburg, Ohio. The carpenter work was done by Michael Reck, then 17 years of age. In March 1833, John Reck and his wife, together with Mr. & Mrs. William Reck, Mr. & Mrs. Thomas McCune, and Mr. & Mrs. Armstrong Campbell organized the Mt. Pleasant Pres. Church at Gettysburg. Armstong Campbell and John MYERS were the first elders. A church was later erected on Corwin Street in 1847 or 1848 on land donated by Alexander Horner. At John Reck's death, his Will dated 19 April 1871 was probated 5 July 1879, Darke County Probate Court, Greenville, Ohio. His sons, John & Eli Reck were Executors.
