1. Census in 1860 in Union Twp., Miami, IN. 6 The 1860 census recorded Martin Hoover, 60, born in Pennsylvania, living with wife Sarah, 50, born in Ohio; and their sons born in Indiana: John, 30; David, 25; Noah, 18; William, 10; and Frances, 8. The post office was Perry.

2. Census in 1870. 7 The 1870 census recorded Noah Hoover, farmer, 28, living with wife Tmperance, 23; son Wm E., 3; daughter Marietta, 2; and son Beecher, 8 months old when the census was recorded on 28 Jun 1870.

3. Census in 1880 in Adams Twp., Cass, IN. 8 The 1880 census recorded Noah Hoover, works on sawmill, 38, living with wife Temperance, 33; Edward, 13; Mary A., 12; and son Beecher Hoover, 10. Everyone was born in Indiana. Noah's father was born in Pennsylvania and mother in Ohio. Temperance's parents were born in Pennsylvania. Next door, marked as being within the Village of Twelve Mile, is John A. Hoover, works on saw mill, 28, with his family, and John A. Hoover Sr., saw mill owner, 52, with his family. John A. Sr. was born in Indiana, his father in Pennsylvania and mother in Ohio, indicating he is Noah's older brother. John A. Jr. was born in Indiana, his father in Pennsylvania and mother in Indiana.

lu the spring of 1835 Joseph Thoruburg, William Cannon and John Plaster selected lands in what is now Union township and built their cabins on the frontier of civilization. Joseph Cox, who came about the same time, made a few improvements and then went elsewhere. In the fall of that year came Abraham Leedy, John Pall and John Zook, who settled in the same neighborhood with those who came the spring before. The next year a number of persons brought their families into the township. Among them were Martin Hoover, who settled in the northern part; John E. Wright, near the present village of Deedsville; Christian Krider, near the western boundary; John F. Sanders and Hugh A. B. People, in the southern part.

Probably the first white child born in the township was Mary, daughter of Martin and Sarah Hoover, who was born in January, 1837. Later in that year occurred the death of Susan Haltimore, which was the first death. Her funeral was held at the residence of Martin Hoover and the sermon delivered on that occasion is said to have been the first ever preached in Union township.

5. Census in 1900 in Union Twp., Miami, IN. 2 The 1900 census recorded Noah T. Hoover, farm laborer, 58, born May 1842, living with wife Temperence, 54, born Jul 1846. The census columns state they were married for 34 years and she had birthed 3 children all alive in 1900. Noah was born in Indiana, his father in Germany, and mother in Pennsylvania. Temperance was born in Indiana and her parents in Pennsylvania.
