Dana was born in Mifflintown, PA and spent the majority of her life in Pennsylvania. In 1962, Dana graduated from Polyclinic Medical Center with a degree in nursing and then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two years. In 1972, Dana and her family served as missionaries in Liberia, West Africa. In 1977, Dana went on to receive her Physician Assistant Certificate from Pennsylvania State University. During Dana's career she worked both as a nurse and PA at several hospitals, medical offices, retirement facilities and with Hospice.

Dana spent her life in the service of others, as that is what she enjoyed. She was active in both Epiphany Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, PA, as well as Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Raleigh, NC where she served as a Stephen Minister and a member of the choir. She considered her church family as her own, and they brought a great comfort to her life.

Dana is survived by her two sisters, Shirley Adams of Harrisburg, PA and Glenda Biecher of Warrenton, VA, son, David Baum and wife, Denise, of Richmond, VA and her daughter, Lisa Betts and husband, Tim, and their sons, Jarod and Adam of Raleigh, NC. Dana was preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin and Mary Gray Leeper.

Dana's memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
