SPARTA, May 16 -- An eight-man General Assembly delegation Wednesday will attend the funeral of Dr. P. L. Choate, 71, of Sparta, a legislator's brother, who died early Tuesday in a Winston-Salem hospital.
The services will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Little River Primitive Baptist church. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery.
Dr. Choate, a physician and former school teacher, was the brother of Rep. A. Vance Choate of Alleghany County, whose county seat is Sparta.
The delegation, appointed today by House Speaker Joe Hunt, is composed of Reps. John McLaughlin of Iredell, Austin Jones of Ashe, William Z. Wood of Forsyth, Glenn Hawfield of Union, Thomas Woodward of Wilson, Bunn Frink of Brunswick, C. E. Leather wood of Lincoln and Blake Thomas of Johnson.
Hunt adjourned the House Tuesday in Dr. Choate's memory.
Dr. Choate has said he once -- as far as he knew -- had been the only doctor licensed to practice in three states. He had studied at the North Carolina Medical College in Charlotte, and the Universities of Virginia, Georgia and North Carolina. He had had his early schooling on his father's Alleghany County farm.
Dr. Choate had been practicing here since 1913.
Surviving Dr. Choate in addition to Rep. Choate are his wife, the former Miss Myrtle Miller Beaker; his sons, Wade, Charles Dean and Bill C. Choate, all of Sparta; his sisters, Mrs. Hattie Whitener of Newton and Mrs. Annie Whitener of Boone; his older brothers, Dr. Walter Choate, Dr. Carr Choate and Dr. Glenn Choate, all of Salisbury and Dr. B. N. Choate of Sparta; and seven grandchildren.


Posey married Myrtle Miller Beeker, daughter of Charles Turner Beeker and Lula Etta Miller, on 20 Jun 1917 in Mount Ulla, Rowan, NC.1 (Myrtle Miller Beeker was born on 13 Jun 1897 in , Rowan, NC,2 13 died on 22 Nov 1985 in Sparta, Alleghany, NC 2 13 and was buried on 24 Nov 1985 in Sparta: Sparta Cemetery, Alleghany, NC 2 13.)
