Obituary: Journal and Courier: obituary of Mrs. Carmen Nichols Beeker on 25 Feb 1978 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN. 1 OXFORD - Mrs. Carmen Nichols Beeker, 65, former Otterbein town board, president, and retired teacher, died at 11:23 a.m. Friday in Home Hospital. She had been in failing health two years. She resided at 611 Darcy Dr. Born at Otterbein, she was a life resident of Benton County, and was a 1929 graduate of Otterbein High School. She received her teaching certificate from Ball State University in 1931 and taught at Montmorenci, Kramer and Attica Elementary Schools, retiring in 1971 for health reasons. In 1934 she was married at Indianapolis to Joseph J. Beeker, who survives. She was president of the Otterbein town board from 1948-1952, and was vice chairperson of the Benton County Democrat Party in 1948. Mrs. Beeker was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where she was church organist many years, and was also past worthy matron of Otterbein Order of Eastern Star 102. Surviving with the husband are a daughter, Mrs. Alfredo (Carleen B.) Gonzalez of Oxford; two brothers, O. Milton Nichols of Otterbein and Gayle R. Nichols of Pompano Beach, Fla. Carmen married Joseph Jefferson Beeker, son of William Earl Beeker and Elizabeth Effie Lou Crist, on 4 Sep 1934 in Indianapolis, Marion, IN.1 (Joseph Jefferson Beeker was born on 9 Jan 1910 in Urbana, Champaign, IL,6 7 8 died on 30 Sep 1988 in Otterbein, Benton, IN 6 7 and was buried on 3 Oct 1988 in Oxford: Justus Cemetery, Benton, IN 6 7.) |
