He was an employee of SKF Industries, Shippensburg plant, where he had worked for 33 years.
He was the husband of Margaret A. Bigler Smith.
Mr. Smith was born June 1, 1927, in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, son of the late Charles William and Ada Gettel Smith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. He was a member of the Church of Christ, an active volunteer firefighter with the Vigilant Hose Co. No. 1, Shippensburg; a member of the Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Co., the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Co., and the Cumberland County Volunteer Fireman's Association. Other interests included the Shippensburg Fish and Game Association and the Shippensburg Fly Fishing Club.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Helen Ann) White, R.R. 1; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Charles (Dolores) Myers, 325 E. Garfield St., and Rita Joyce Beecher, R.R. 1; a stepson, Terry Lee Beecher, R.R. 6; seven grandchildren; three brothers: Frank Smith, R.R. 4; Walter Smith, Shippensburg, and John Smith, Amberson; five sisters: Mrs. Janet Hoy, New Jersey; Mrs. Betty Johnson; Shippensburg; Mrs. Edith Helman, R.R. 5; Mrs. Ruth Chestnut, Carlisle, and Mrs. Peggy Jumper, Newville.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Fogelsanger Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., with Herb Braswell officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received tonight after 7 in the funeral home.


Charles married Margaret Ann Bigler, daughter of Stewart Wallace W. Bigler and Laura Ellen Adams. (Margaret Ann Bigler was born on 30 Aug 1920 in , , PA,4 died on 16 Oct 2008 in Carlisle, Cumberland, PA 4 and was buried on 20 Oct 2008 in Shippensburg: Spring Hill Cemetery, Cumberland, PA 4.)
