Obituary: Kansas City Star: obituary of Donald Huxtable on 6 Oct 2016 in Kansas City, Jackson, MO. 1 Donald Eugene Huxtable, 87, passed away October 4, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Prairie Village, Kan. Interment will be held immediately after the mass at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Don was born July 21, 1929, in Kansas City. He attended J.C. Nichols grade school and Southwest High School. Don served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. Prior to serving overseas, he met the love of his life Marjorie Scherman and they were married in 1948. October 23 is their 68th wedding anniversary. Don and Marge were blessed with five children, Phil Huxtable (Sally); Carol Maggio (Mark); Mary Soden (Steve); Jim Huxtable (Lisa); and Julia Rebein (Mark). Don is also survived by 16 grandchildren whom he was very proud of. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Ruth Huxtable as well as his brother Melvin and sister Mary. Don founded Huxtable-Hammond in 1954. His company became one of the leading mechanical contracting companies in the nation with large industrial jobs both in the United States and abroad. He served in leadership positions associated with his industry: national director of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, president of the Associated Plumbing Contractors of Greater Kansas City, president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Greater Kansas City, trustee of the Pipe Fitting & Air Conditioning Council of Greater Kansas City and was a member of the National Business Round Table which was an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies. Don is a past president of Young Presidents Organization and served on the board of Valley View Bancshares for 40 years. He was a member of the Kansas City Club and Indian Hills Country Club and supported various charities in Kansas City. He and his wife Marge were founding members of St. Ann church. They enjoyed traveling the world extensively, but Papa Don's greatest joy was boating with his grandkids at the Lake of the Ozarks. After he retired, he developed a great interest in cooking and took culinary classes in Europe. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing gin rummy with his friends, watching the Royals, Chiefs and KU Basketball. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, The Tom Keaveny Cancer Research Fund at Children's Mercy Hospital, or St. Ann's Catholic Church.
