Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in the chapel of Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. He was born in Florence, a son of the late Archie G. and Mae Thomas Snipes. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and the Vietnam War.
He received a Purple Heart and Bronze and Silver stars for his service. He was assistant manager of Florence Steam Laundry. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Sue Gilbert Snipes, and a brother, A.G. Snipes Jr.
Survivors are a son, Joe Harry Snipes Jr. of Georgetown; four sisters, Mrs. Odell (Gladys) Prosser of Darlington, Edna Young, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Anderson, and Mrs. Billy (Betty) Campbell, all of Florence; two brothers, Milton E.
Snipes of Franklin, N.C., and B.R. "Bobby". Snipes of Florence; three granddaughters, Jennifer Snipes of Myrtle Beach, Christina Snipes of Columbia and Stephanie Snipes of Florence; a grandson, Joe H. Snipes III of Georgetown; two stepgrandchildren, LaDonna Beeker and Christopher Beeker, both of Georgetown; a great-grandson, Nicholas Rogers of Myrtle Beach; and a devoted friend, Eunice Blackwell. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
today at the funeral home.
