Census in 1860 in East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster, PA. ¹ The 1860 census recorded Aaron Sheaffer, 37, living with wife Catharine, 37; daughter Leviesa, 16; Susana, 15; John, 13; daughter Fietta, 11; Catharine, 9; son Lemon, 7; Anna Eliza, 5; Levi, 4; George, 3; and Mary, 6 months old when the census was recorded on 1 Jun 1860.

2. Census in 1880 in East Earl Twp., Lancaster, PA. ³ The 1880 census recorded J. M. Bitzer, cigar maker, 22, living with wife Mary, 20; and son Harry, 3. They and their parents were born in Pennsylvania. Mary and Harry are noted "confinement" in the census column "Is the person on day of the Enumerator's visit sick or temporarily disabled..."

Next door is Mary's father, listed as Aron Sheafer, farmer, 57, with his wife Catharine, 56; daughter Louissa, 35, son George, cigar maker, 22. They and their parents were born in Pennsylvania. Louissa suffered from consumption.

On the previous census page is J. M.'s father, Jesse Bitzer, cigar maker, 48, living with wife Elisa, 53; Matilda, cigar maker, 21; Emma, cigar maker, 18; and Alice, cigar maker, 13. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

Aaron married Catharine Roth. (Catharine Roth was born on 8 Apr 1824 in , , Pennsylvania, USA,^{1 2} died on 22 Mar 1901 ² and was buried in Terre Hill: Terre Hill Cemetery, Lancaster, PA.)
