Everyone was born in Pennsylvania except the three youngest children, who were born in Ohio.

2. Census in 1860 in South Bend, St. Joseph, IN. ⁴ The 1860 census recorded Jacob Paxon, 48, living with wife Caroline, 48; John, 17; Mary, 15; Caroline, 10; and David, 8. The three youngest children were born in Ohio, the others in Pennsylvania.

3. Census in 1870 in South Bend, St. Joseph, IN. ⁵ The 1870 census recorded in the 4th Ward of South Bend: Jacob Paxon, carpenter, 58, living with wife Caroline M., 58, and an adopted daughter, Ida May Paddock, 3, born in Michigan. Jacob and Caroline were born in Pennsylvania. Jacob's real estate was valued at $1000 and personal estate $200.

4. Census in 1880 in South Bend, St. Joseph, IN. ⁶ The 1880 census recorded David M. Paxen, works at sewing machine factory, 28, living with wife Maggie, 27; daughter Capitolas, 4; daughter Clenny, 1; and David's mother, Caroline M. Paxen, 68. David was born in Ohio, his parent's in Pennsylvania. Maggie was born in Indiana and parents in Bavaria. Their daughters were born in Indiana. Caroline and her parents were born in Pennsylvania.
