1. Occupation: gunsmith in 1800 in Hanover, York, PA. 6 Daniel Gobrecht, gunsmith, 1800-10, Hanover, York County. On 13 March 1805, Daniel Gobrecht bought, with his brother, silversmith and clockmaker David Gobrecht, a house and lot on Baltimore St.

Daniel Gobrecht, first son of Rev. John Christopher and Elizabeth Sentz (Sands) Gobrecht, was bom June 13,1772, near Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pa. He was baptized by Rev. J. Theoboid Faber, Sr,, then pastor of Great Swamp and Goshenhoppen in Montgomery County, Pa,

Mr. Gobrecht was treasurer of the Borough of Hanover, Pa,, from 1816 to 1822. He was a director and subscriber of the Hanover Library Company which was organized in 1817. He also conducted an apothecary shop (drug store) on Baltimore Street near Center Square.

In a copy of the "Hanover Gazette" bearing the date of 1835, and now in the possession of Reed Eppleman of Littlestown, appears the following advertisement: "Consumption cured by 'Indian Specific," a preparation put out by Dr. Clarkson Freeman of Lancaster, Pa., and for sale at Gobrecht's Apothecary Shop, Hanover, Penna." This item was republished in the Evening Sun newspaper of Hanover, January 21, 1939, one hundred and four years later.

This bit of information was submitted in 1947 by Robert A. Spangler, Baltimore Street, Hanover, Pa. An old tax duplicate of Heidelberg Township (before Hanover was incorporated as a Borough), dated 1812-1813, shows that Daniel Gobrecht paid a tax amounting to $2.70, and his father, Rev. John Christopher Gobrecht, paid a sum of $1.05.

From the "History of York County" by Gibson, we learn that at the first election of the Hanover Saving Fund Society, held on July 1, 1835, Daniel Gobrecht was chosen as one of its directors.

Daniel was married to Catherine Schriver, who was born June 17, 1775 and died November 5, 1849, They had one son, William D. Gobrecht, who was bom December 6, 1799.
