She was born February 5, 1929 to Harry and Esther (Snodgrass) Sheets, who preceded her in death. She married Donald Blackman on December 27, 1950, and he survives. She is also survived by her sister, Ellen Guenther of Midwest City, Okla.

Charlene was the beloved mother of Jon L. Blackman and wife Vicky, Kokomo, Michael C. Blackman of Fort Wayne, and Jeffrey L. Blackman and wife Teresa of Gainesville, Fla. She was the adored grandmother of Michelle Easterday-Hernandez and husband Wilmer of Peru, Nicole Rodriguez and husband Hector of Peru, Greggory Blackman of Birmingham, Ala., Cody Blackman of Auburn, Ala., Shannon Darrow and husband Adam of Fort Wayne, Lisa Boyce and husband Tim of Kokomo, and Kelly Majors and companion Monie McMurtry of Kokomo. She treasured her great-grandchildren, Maddison and Griffin Easterday, William Rodriguez, Jessica and Nicholas Boyce, Kokomo; Kert, Mia, Aiden, and Callie Darrow of Fort Wayne; a special niece, Valerie Elliott and husband Chris, Harrah, Okla.; along with several other nieces and nephews.

Charlene worked as a legal secretary in Peru for Attorney Albert Cole for 25 years, until her retirement in 1994. Upon retirement, Charlene and Don moved to Orange Beach, Ala., where they enjoyed gardening, traveling, going to the beach, and spending time together with family.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Peru, and enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Dukes Memorial Hospital for several years. She was also active in the American Business Women's Association.

A memorial service in Charlene's honor was held in Orange Beach, Ala. on January 21, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third Street, with Pastor George McCarty officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.


Charlene married Harold Larkin Beecher, son of Clinton Everett Beecher and Grace Hazel Condon, on 24 Jan 1948 in Peru, Miami, IN.1 The marriage ended in divorce in Sep 1949. (Harold Larkin Beecher was born on 2 May 1927 in Bethlehem Twp., Cass, IN,4 5 6 7 8 died on 12 Feb 2012 in Fort Wayne, Allen, IN 5 6 and was buried in Twelve Mile: Corinth Brethren Church, Cass, IN 5 6.)


Charlene next married Donald Blackman on 26 Dec 1950 in Peru, Miami, IN.2 (Donald Blackman was born on 29 Jun 1929 in Peru, Miami, IN 3.)
