Ms. Long graduated from Durham High School. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

She was married to Bruce Long on March 16, 1974 in Durham, North Carolina. She and Bruce have two sons, Jonathon Long of Brooklyn, NY and Jeremy Long of Charlotte, NC.

Ms. Long was the medical records director of a nursing home in New Bern, NC before moving to Charlotte to complete her graduate degree. She was active in gerontology research and hoped to continue assisting the elderly.

She was a Navy Wife who traveled the East Coast and overseas. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts of all kinds, particularly needlecrafts.

Ms. Long passed away on March 16, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband Bruce; her sons and daughters: Jonathon and his wife Tracey and Jeremy and his wife Kelly; her grandson, Haydn; her sister and brother-in-law Beth and Mike Sherron; her brother and sister-in-law Edward and Teresa Beeker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Alzheimer's charity of your choice, or just pay it forward and doing something nice, like Ms. Long would have.

A memorial service will be held 3:00PM, Thursday, March 16, 2017, in the Chapel of Boston's Mortuary. Arrangements for the Long Family have been entrusted to Cremation Society of Charlotte, Inc.
