China Grove -- Wade Gile Wood, 51, of China Grove died Thursday in the VA Hospital, Durham. Wood served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, retiring in 1962, when he began operation of Wood's Shell Service and Fuel Oil Co. here. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Summersett Memorial Chapel in Salisbury. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the U.S. National Cemetery, Salisburg.
Survivors are widow, Mrs. Nancy Jean Beeker Wood; son David William Wood of the home; daughters, Mrs. Ronal A. Overcash of China Grove, Mrs. Larry W. Hampton of Charlotte; stepmother, Mrs. Laura Thomas of Salisbury; brothers, Hoyt H. Wood of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joseph Colan Wood of Spokane, Wash., George N. Wood of Baltimore, Md.; sister Mrs. Jack Gilbert of Charlotte.
The body is at Summersett Funeral Home.
