2. Obituary: The Mercury: obituary of Mrs. Catharine R. Ammarell on 21 Nov 1950 in Pottstown, Montgomery, PA. 2 Mrs. Catharine R. Ammarell, 89, widow of the late John B. Ammarell, for many years a resident of Leinbachs, West Leesport RD 1, and widely known among Berks county farm groups, died yesterday morning at her home in Reading.
Born in Bern township, she was a daughter of the late John and Susannah (Fisher) Matz. She was a member of Epler's Reformed church and Sunday school for over 50 years and was a member of the Missionary society of the church. Her husband was organist and sexton there for nearly a half century.
Known affectionately as "Mother Ammarell," she was active in the work of the Berks county Agricultural Extension association. Since 1934 she had been head of the canned goods, baking, dairy and apiary products department of the Reading fair. The late Dr. Winfield F. Ammarell, of Birdsboro, a former Berks county coroner, was a son.
Surviving are two sons, Raymond R. Ammarell, of Monclair, N. J., and Dr. John S. Ammarell, 406 Yost avenue, Spring City; eight grand-children and seven great-grand-children.
Services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a. m. from a funeral chapel at 117 North Fifth street, Reading, with the Rev. Dr. George A. Ehrgood officiating. Interment will be in Epler's church cemetery.
