He was born March 19, 1945, in Erie, Pennsylvania to Elsie Mae (Clark) Patterson and William Russell Patterson. William graduated from Academy High School, Erie, Pennsylvania in1963 and enlisted in the Navy. He served "Active Duty" from June 1963 till 1965 when he re-enlisted with the Naval Reserves until his discharge in April 1968. William worked at A.O. Smith in Pennsylvania until they closed the factory and moved his family to Iowa, where he worked on the assembly line for Massey Ferguson and received his 10 year pin before the plant was closed. He worked for Pester Derby, traveling the state of Iowa providing maintenance and repair on their many service stations. He was a locksmith for Strauss Lock before starting at Thorson Manufacturing in 1994 until his retirement. William loved to tinker with cars, rebuild engines, and restore Ford Falcons and Chevy Corvairs. William is survived by his wife, Cheryl M. Patterson, daughter, Vicki Patterson (Robert Green), son, Jeffery Patterson (Karen), daughter, Kimberly Patterson, daughter, Melissa Stockman (Eric), 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 step children and 1 step grandchild. William is preceded in death by son, Richard Patterson and grandson, Gregory Patterson. A public memorial gathering will take place at Westover Chapel on April 27, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm where family will be present. Private interment will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. |
