John P. Duffey 1Noted events in his life were: 1. Obituary: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: obituary of John P. Duffey on 10 Aug 2008 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI. 1 Duffey, John P. "Duffey" Duffey passed away peacefully at age 87, on August 7, 2008, surrounded by family. He was born in Racine on September 18, 1920, to George and Bridget, and attended St. Catherine's High School. He learned to fly at age 17, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force before Pearl Harbor, and instructed RAF pilots in Scotland. He then transferred to the US Navy, and flew transports in the South Pacific. He joined the FAA after the war, and served as an Air Traffic Controller at General Mitchell Field for 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dolores, and his children, Renelle Stadtler, Roger (Tanja), Sean, Martin (Judi) and Michael (Alina) as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Marie Beicher of San Diego, and was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret. He was a lifetime member of the EAA and OX5 Aviation Pioneers, and was inducted into the Southeastern Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame. He enjoyed monthly meetings with fellow retired air traffic controllers, and with the Racine Airport Breakfast Club. Memorial gathering at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave., Hales Corners, on Monday, August 11, from 9:30AM to 11:00AM. Memorial Mass at 11:00AM. The Duffey family is grateful to St. Luke's Medical Center for two decades of cardiac care, and would ask that any memorials be directed to its Office of Philanthropy. |
