Russell and Sharron (Darby) Towner of Anderson, celebrated 50 years of marriage Dec. 9, 2017.

The couple first met in their third-grade Sunday school class at First Brethren Church in Dayton, Ohio. Perhaps it was love at first sight, but Russ and Sharron didn't officially date until high school. They tied the knot in 1967 at their church with Russ' brother-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Russell, officiating. After they wed, they stayed in Dayton, with both working for General Motors. In 1973, they moved to Detroit, Michigan, where they continued to work for GM. They moved to Indiana in 1982 where they raised their two daughters, Tracie (Ryan) Mariner of Falls Church, Virginia, and Terri (Kevin) Beher of Fishers.

To celebrate their golden anniversary, the Towners were surprised with a party in Indianapolis. Attendees included family and friends, along with the couple's matron of honor, Earlene (Unger) Dafler and best man, Dennis Huddleston. After cutting a replica of their original wedding cake, the Towner's long and happy marriage was toasted.
