3. Obituary: La Crosse Tribune: obituary of Robert Franz Bartl on 10 Jul 1994 in La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA. ⁶ Robert Franz Bartl, 89, died Friday, July 8, 1994, in Bethany-Riverside Nursing Home. He was bom in La Crosse on Oct. 28, 1904, to Joseph and Rae Bartl. Mr. Bartl's grandparents had founded the Bard Brewery in La Crosse. In the 1920s, he was a member of the Clyde Eddy Grand Canyon Expedition down the Colorado River. He was a graduate of Notre Dame University. In 1937 he married Vema Kurth in La Crosse. Robert was the purchasing agent for the La Crosse Rubber Mills for more than 40 years before his retirement. He and his wife, Vema, were charter members of the La Crosse Yacht Club. He was a long-time member of the La Crosse Elks Lodge 300. He is survived by his wife, Vema; a daughter, Nancy Maddy of Anderson, Ind.; a sister, Dorothy Hunter of Milwaukee; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren in Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Bartl. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at a later date. The body will be cremated, with the interment of the cremains in Catholic Cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Blaschke Funeral Home, La Crosse, is assisting the family with arrangements.
