The parents and their parents were born in Ireland. Their children were born in Pennsylvania.

Census in 1900 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA. ³ The 1900 census recorded renting at 3605 Charlotte Street: John Nolan, day laborer, age and birth year unknown; Katherine Nolan, 48, born Jun 1852; John M. Nolan, 28, Dec 1872; Micheal Nolan, rougher in mill, 26, Feb 1874; James Nolan, rougher in mill, 23, Dec 1877; Joseph Nolan, rougher in mill, 20, Aug 1880; Mary Nolan, nickle polisher, 16, May 1884. Also in the home is John's daughter, Nellie Wurtz, 24, May 1876, with her husband John Wurtz, barber, 27, Oct 1873, and their children John Wurtz, 4, Apr 1896, and Charles Wurtz, 11 months, Jun 1899. Finally, John's granddaughter Nellie Smith, 6, Jun 1894, was living here without her parents. John Sr. and Katherine and their parents were born in Ireland. Wurtz, widow, 33; grandson John M. Wurtz, 14; grandson Charlie F. Wurtz, 12; and granddaughter Nellie M. Smith, baker in bakery, single, 17. John and Katerine were married for 43 years and she had birthed 12 children, 6 alive in 1910. Nellie Wurtz had birthed 3 children, 2 alive in 1910. John and Katherine and their parents were born in Ireland. They immigated in 1866. Everyone else was born in Pennsylvania, including the father of the Wurtz children. Nellie Smith's mother was also born in Pennsylania but her father in Germany.
