Howell E. Gholson, 58, agriculture teacher at Clarksvflle High School for the past 27 years, died suddenly yesterday evening at 6:15 at Clarksville Airport following a heart attack.
Mr. Gholson, who resided on Furnace Road just outside the city limits, was a farmer. Funeral services will be held at McReynolds Chapel Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The Rev. J. Wayne Drash will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Gholson, who attended the Clarksvllle Schools and Southwestern University, was graduated from Iowa State University. He took post graduate Work at Peabody College and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Honorary pallbearers will be the county and city school boards, all men teachers, of Clarksvllle High School, H. B. Stout, C. H. Moore, Robert O'Neal and Judge A. B. Broadbent. Active pallbearers will be Oscar Beach, Collier Goodlett, Sr., Pat Henry Cross, Pat Howell, R. H. Porter, James W. Bell, Richmond Loggins and Frank Keen.
Son of the late Judge Alex Gholson and Jennie Keesee Gholson, he was born in Clarksvllle on Feb. 14, 1890. On Jan. 31, 1910, he married the former Nell Slocum, who survives him, along with one son, Capt. Alex Gholson of the U. S. Army in Japan; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia G. Edwards of Terre Haute, and Mrs. Dorothy G. Belden of New York City; a grandchild, Dick Belden of New York City; two, aunts, Mrs, L. M. Raysor of Falrchlld, Ala., and Miss Dora Gholson of Memphis.

Howell married Nelle Slocum, daughter of Leroy Chase Slocum Sr. and Flora Virginia Beeker, on 10 Jan 1910. (Nelle Slocum was born on 3 Mar 1891 in , , KS,⁴ died on 23 Nov 1974 in Atlanta, Fulton, GA ^{4 5} and was buried in Clarksville: Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, TN, USA.)
