Karl LeRoy Mathes ^{1 2}

1. Obituary: The Oregonian: obituary of Karl L. Mathes on 14 Jun 1932 in Portland, Multnomah, OR. ² Karl L. Mathes, long time resident of Portland, 363 East Forty-fifth street North, died yesterday morning from heart failure following an operation.

Mr. Mathes was widely known throughout the state among the jobbers and retail grocerymen. For 13 years he traveled throughout the state as salesman for the California Packing company. He resigned his position a year ago because of ill health.

He was a member of the Masonic and Elks lodges.

He is survived by his widow, May Mathes; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Reed and Mrs. Ethel Mathews; two sons, Arthur and Matt Mathes; two brothers, Raymond and Ernest Mathes; a sister, Mrs. A. F. Batchelor, and his mother, Mrs. Alice Mathes.

Karl married Miranda Elizabeth Rusk, daughter of Josiah Rusk and Malinda Brown. (Miranda Elizabeth Rusk was born in Jun 1878 in Shawnee Township, Fountain, IN, USA,³ died on 3 Dec 1961 in Forest Grove, Washington, OR, USA ^{3 4} and was buried on 6 Dec 1961 in Portland, Multnomah, OR ^{3 4}.)
