Phineas and his sons were born in Canada. Maranda was born in New York and the daughters in Iowa. Phineas' father was born in Connecticut, his mother and Maranda's parents in Vermont.

Census in 1900 in Edgemont, Fall River, SD, USA. 6 The 1900 census recorded renting a home: Edward Pruitt, minister, 27, born Jul 1873 in Illinois, living with wife Nettie M., 27, born Dec 1873 in Iowa. Her parents were born in Canada, his parents in Indiana. The census columns record they were married for 4 years and she had birthed 2 children but none were alive in 1900.

5. Obituary: Clarinda Journal: Obituary of Mrs. Nettie Pelton Pruitt on 23 Dec 1920 in Clarinda, Page, IA. 1 Mrs. Nettie Pelton Pruitt, wife of Rev. Edward Pruitt, pastor of the Asbury Methodist Episcopal church of Des Moines, passed away at the Methodist Episcopal hospital in that city Friday, Dec. 17, 1920. She had been a great sufferer for a number of weeks, having never fully recovered aparently from an attack of influenza. She had recently been taken to the hospital to be cared for. She was a sister of Mrs. J. B. M. Pruitt of this city, Mr. Pruitt and her husband being brothers.
Mrs. Pruitt of this city was called to Des Moines Thursday before her sister's death. Funeral services were held at the Pruitt home in Des Moines Saturday afternoon. They were conducted by Dr. Edgar M. Evans, superintendent of the Des Moines district, assisted by Dr. James L. Gillies and Dr. E. W. McDade. The remains were brought to Clarinda where services were held at the J. B. M. Pruitt home Monday afternoon, at 2:30. Several ministers of the Methodist Episcopal church assisted with the services which were in charge of Rev. J. M. Wililams, pastor of the Clarinda church. Scripture readings were given by Rev. A. S. Woodard of Shenandoah and Rev. L. P. Goodwin of Red Oak. Prayer was offered by Rev. L. E. Ripley of Glenwood. Short addresses were given by Rev. E. A. Moore of Clarinda, superintendent of the Creston district and Rev. R. E. Harvey of Coin. The closing prayer was by Rev. Joseph Penn of New Market. Rev. E. A. Cochell of Shambaugh was also in attendance at the funeral. Hymns were sung by the quartette of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city which is composed of Mrs. J. G. Scroggs, Miss Nina Martin, Claude Annan and Charles Keeran. At the grave the services were conducted by Rev. Ivan R. Mills of Nodaway, Mr. Ripley and Mr. Williams. Interment was in Clarinda cemetery. The late Mrs. Pruitt was born Dec. 31, 1872, in Smithtown, Iowa. She was united in mariage Oct. 23, 1895, to Edward Pruitt.

6. Obituary: Mrs. Pruitt Funeral Held at Clarinda on 24 Dec 1920 in Davenport, Scott, IA. 9 CLARINDA, Ia. Dec. 24. -- Mrs. Edwin Pruitt, the wife of the Rev. Edwin Pruitt, pastor of Asbury Methodist Episcopal church at Des Moines, was buried here.
The funeral services were simple and beautiful. They were held from the home of J. B. M. Pruitt, a brother of the husband. The Rev. J. M. Williams of the Clarinda Methodist church had charge of the services. He was assisted by the Rev. E. A. Moore, superintendent of the Creston district; the Rev. L. P. Goodwin of Red Oak, the Rev. A. S. Woodard of Shenandoah, the Rev. L. E. Ripley of Glendoow, the Rev. Joseph Penn of New Market, the Rev. R. E. Harvey of Coin, and the Rev. I. P. Mills of Nodaway.
Interment was in Birchwood, the beautiful new addition to the Clarinda Cemetery.

7. Obituary: North-western Christian Advocate: obituary of Nettie Pelton Pruitt on 16 Feb 1921 in Chicago, Cook, IL. 10 Nettie Pelton Pruitt, wife of the Rev. Pruitt, pastor of Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church at Des Moines, Ia., passed from this life at the Methodist Hospital at Des Moines on December 17, 1920. Her death was a shock to her relatives and friends. She had been at the hospital for several weeks under treatment for a nervous breakdown and was apparently on the road to recovery. Her heart failed to bear the strain at a critical period in her sickness slipped quietly away from the arms of loved ones to the home beyond.
Nettie Pelton was born in Clinton County, Iowa in 1872. She was the daughter of Phineas Pelton and wife, and with her parents moved to Harrison County, Iowa, when a small girl and lived in the viciinity of Persia, where she grew up and developed into her beautiful womanhood. On October 23, 1895, she became the bride of Edwin Pruitt who afterward became a member of the Des Moines Conference. They soon entered into the ministry, going first to the Black Hills Mission, where they labored two years. She shared with her husband in his student life at Evanston when taking his course in Garrett. The postorates in the Des Moines Conference have been Braddyville, Cromwell, Coin, Colfax, Corydon, and Asbury, Des Moines. Sister Pruitt was an ideal pastor's wife, dearly beloved by the congreation. The young people adored her. She loved the work. It was her very life. Brief services were held from the home at Des Moines, the Rev. E. M. Evans, district superintendent, having charge and assisted by brother pastors of the city churches. Funeral services were from the home of J. M. M. Pruitt, brother of the husband at Clarinda, Ia., December 20, 1920. The pastor of the Clarinda Church, and friend of the family, the Rev. J. M. Williams , was in charge and was assisted by a number of the brethren of the conference. Burial was in the beautiful Birchwood Cemetery at Clarinda.


Nettie married Rev. Edward Pruitt, son of Daniel Pruitt and Sarah Ann Wilson, on 23 Oct 1895 in Persia, Harrison, IA, USA.1 2 (Rev. Edward Pruitt was born on 10 Jul 1873 in Milford, Iroquois, IL,11 12 13 died on 25 Oct 1959 in Des Moines, Polk, IA 13 and was buried on 27 Oct 1959 in Moline: Moline Memorial Park, Rock Island, IL, USA 13 14.)
