  General Notes:

We are not 100% certain how this descending branch of the Hans Bucher family ties into the origin of the family tree. Y-DNA tests of a descendent of Samuel Christian Bucher (b.1808) and his son Jesse Bucher (b.1836) who died in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, match the Y-DNA of descendents of the immigrant Hans Bucher and Dr. Benedict Bucher Sr. However, we have yet to find church records or wills to establish a certain ancestor path to the Cumberland Buchers.

We know from "The History of Cumberland County" published in 1886 that Jesse Bucher (1836-1902) reported his grandfather, Christian, and father, Samuel Christian (b. 1808), were born on their family farm near Union Station in Lancaster county. Union Station was an historic post office located at today's intersection of Main Street and Front Street in Denver, Pennsylvania. Denver, of course, is home of the family of immigrant Hans Bucher and his sons Christian Bucher and Dr. Benedict Bucher Sr.

Samuel Christian (b.1808) is too young to be a grandson of immigrant Hans Bucher's sons Christian and Benedict, so there must be one more missing generation that ties the Cumberland County Bucher line into the Hans Bucher tree, which we have indicated in this tree as two generations of Christians descending from Dr. Benedict Bucher Sr.

"The Bucher Family" published by Gladys Bucher Sowers was unable to provide information to solve this mystery. The book shows that immigrant Hans had a son named Christian who died having no children, and also that Hans' son Dr. Benedict Bucher Sr. had a son Christian about which nothing was known - no spouse or dates -- so our tree represents Benedict's son Christian as the father of another previously unknown Christian Bucher who fathered Samuel Christian (b. 1808) who was father of Jesse Bucher of Cumberland County.

Please note Benedict also has sons Henry and John who could have sired a Christian who would be Jesse's grandfather.

Our research database of all Buchers in colonial Pennsylvania does have a Christian Bucher and wife Susan Margaret ( see http://www.SearchTrees.com/tree/2772.htm ) who christens at First Reformed Church in Lancaster city a son Johan Peter Bucher born 26 Dec 1753. However, that Christian is likely born about 1730, making him too old to fit into the Cumberland Bucher tree. Further, the Pennsylvania Dutch had naming traditions to use the same given names for sons in family branches, and there are no Peters in the Hans Bucher line.

Christian married.
