3. Obituary: Sacramento Bee: obituary of Allan Christian Korth on 31 May 2014 in Sacramento, Sacramento, CA. ⁴ Allan Christian Korth died May 15, 2014 in Los Gatos, CA. He was 90. He was born on February 15, 1924 in Rio Vista, CA to Albine and Josephine Korth. He was named after his father at birth and became popularly known as "Junior" throughout his childhood. He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy in Rio Vista and graduated from Rio Vista High School in 1942. He was drafted into the Navy during WWII and it was upon entrance to the Navy that he claimed the name of "Allan" as they would not allow him to be called "Junior" and he disliked the name Albine. He served in the Pacific during the war. He met his wife, Ethel Freeman, in San Francisco and they married in 1950. After a three year stay in the Sacramento Delta working for his family they eventually settled in Capitola where they established a wholesale nursery which they ran from 1956 to 1986. He and Ethel retired to Soquel in 1987 where he continued to spend time as a long time member of the Rhododendron Society, acting as the local branch President several times and winning many awards at shows over the years. He also created several new hybrids that are in production and are sold at many West Coast nurseries today. His wife, Ethel, predeceased him in 2000. He is survived by his sons, Martin (Stana) and Dean (Audrey) and granddaughter, Ann; sister, Jean Applegate; nephews, Will and Michael Applegate and nieces, Kande, Kim and Kathy Korth.

Allan married Ethel Hellene Freeman on 17 Feb 1950 in San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.¹ (Ethel Hellene Freeman was born on 25 Jul 1922 in Billings, Yellowstone, MT,² died on 31 Jul 2000 in Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, CA ² and was buried in Soquel, Santa Cruz, CA ².)
