1. He has conflicting birth information of Oct 1835 and , , PA. 1 6 The 1900 Census lists his date of birth as Oct 1835, which conflicts with the Nov 1833 date in The Bucher Family book. The 1860 and 1880 Census also suggests an 1835 year.

2. Census in 1850 in S. Lebanon Twp., Lebanon, PA. 7 The 1850 South Lebanon Census lists a number of Bucher families, some living in close proximity.

On page 81 we first find Henry Bucher, age 52, farmer, real estate valued at $7000, living with wife Elizabeth, 45; Mary Ann, 20; Catherine, 18; Benedict, 16, farmer; Levina, 16; and Henry,14. All were born in Pennsylvania. Henry's neighbor preceding him is Peter Smith, 49, with his wife Margaret, 42, but the following neighbor is another Bucher.

On page 81 next is John Bucher, 67, occupation "none", real estate valued at $2500, living with a probable son, Ezra, 32, farmer, real estate valued at $2500. With him is Elizabeth, 35; John H., 10; Cyrus, 5; Christian S., 11 months old when the census was recorded on 8 Aug 1850. Also with them are others who aren't Bucher: George Schron, 21, laborer; Lidia Zellar, 16; and Catherine Zellar, 9. Everyone is born in Pennsylvania.

The next household is George Yeagley, weaver, 48, wife Elizabeth, 46, and their family; followed by George Hefs, blacksmith, 27, wife Rebecca, 26; and their family. Also in that home was Joseph Dohner, 25, related to the Dohners who married several Buchers.

The next household is Michael Snyder, laborer, 45; wife Mary [nee Bucher, sister of Henry above], 45; and children Henry, 19; Susan 18; Mary, 16; Israel, 11; Leah, 8; and Jonah, 5.

6. Census in 1880 in Lebanon, Lebanon, PA. 10 The 1880 census recorded Benedict Bucher, physician, 45, living with wife Maria C., 36; daughters Cara, 6 and Maria Edna, 3. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

7. Census in 1900 in Lebanon, Lebanon, PA. 6 Dr. Benedict Bucher, born Oct 1835, is living at 742 Cumberland St in Lebanon in the 1900 Census. His marital status is widowed and in his household are two daughters: Carrie (Jun 1873) and Maria E. (Oct 1876).

Obituary: Lebanon Daily News on 7 Dec 1909 in Lebanon, Lebanon, PA. 12 Dr Benedict Dallas Bucher, of 742 Cumberland Street, died this morning at ten o'clock of a complication of diseases, following an illness which dated from the beginning of last fall, but which only became serious last week. Dr. Bucher was one of the old-time physicians and his practice extended over a period of almost a half century. He was a son of the late Henry Bucher, whose wife was Elizabeth Schaak, and was born at Cornwall 76 years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Carrie Bucher, at home, and Miss Marla Bucher, a teacher in the public schools of Weehawken, New Jersey. A brother Henry Bucher, and a sister, Miss Lovina Bucher, both of Myerstown, also survive. His wife died eighteen years ago. During his long residence in this city, Dr. Bucher became well known and enjoyed a large practice, which occupied his time even after his condition would no longer permit of him doing other than look after his office work.


Benedict married Maria C. Long, daughter of George Long and Sabina Clark. (Maria C. Long was born in 1842 in Jonestown, Lebanon, PA,5 13 14 died in 1891 in Jonestown, Lebanon, PA 5 14 and was buried in Lebanon: Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, PA 14.)
