Lee Martin, a professional artist and musician who played on The Jackie Gleason Show, died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital from complications after a fall. He was 87. "He never ceased to amaze me. He could continuously create" said stepson Mark Levin. "If he wasn't creating art, he was creating music, he was creating photography." Martin played several wind instruments: saxophone, flute, clarinet and piccolo. He taught himself how to play the piano well enough to play professionally in his late 70s, said stepdaughter Veda Levin. In the 1960s, Martin worked as a music arranger for "The Jackie Gleason Show." He also worked with Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and Tiny Tim. Among his other artistic talents were painting, drawing caricatures and photography. He painted a portrait of the ship Exodus which was considered by Israel for a postage stamp, said Veda Levin. "The creativity literally permeated his life" she said. "It was just a love of language and of music." In 1989 Martin and his wife Lynne helped found the Senior Living Involvement Fulfillment and Togetherness Center in Kendall. The facility helps senior citizens stay more active through field trips, games and lectures. He was predeceased by his wife and stepson Roger Levin. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Levitt-Weinstein-Mount Nebo Kendall Chapel, 5900 SW 77th Ave.
