1. Obituary: Charlotte Observer: obituary of Jackie Morgan Furr Beeker on 22 May 2022 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC. 3 Jackie Morgan Furr Beeker, 90, of Stanfield, passed away early Friday morning, May 20, 2022 at Spring Arbor in Albemarle, NC, following a five year battle with Alzheimers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 22, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Stanfield. Reverend Bruce League will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside in the church fellowship hall. Jackie was born December 13, 1931 in Stanly County to the late Lonnie and Pearl Brooks Morgan. Jackie was a life long and active member of Stanfield Baptist Church, where she taught the Senior 3 class, served on the Nominating and Finance Committees. She was a 1950 graduate of Stanfield High School, where she was a member of the girl's Stanly County champion basketball winning team. She was owner and operator of the Rose Petal Florist in Stanfield for many years. Jackie had a heart for community involvement and was a member of many organizations. She helped organize, operate and served on the board of West Stanly Christian Ministries, Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Board, Stanly County Water and Sewer Authority, Stanly County Board of Social Services, Stanfield Town Board, Stanly Community College Board of Trustees and Foundation Board. She established a scholarship at Stanly Community College in memory of her late husband, Bob Furr. In 2016, she established the Jackie Morgan Furr Endowed Scholarship at the Stanly Community College Crutchfield Education Center in Locust. Jackie always supported the college's mission to change lives. Jackie was an active member and worker in the Stanly County Republican Party at both the local, state and national levels. Supported by working for and funding their election efforts. Her Stanfield home became the center for "get out the vote" effort during elections. In 1998, she saw the need for a Senior Center and Nutrition site in her community. Without any outside assistance, a building was purchased, food was purchased and cooked by her and served each Wednesday for up to 117 senior citizens. A small group of volunteers helped her with serving. Also in 1998 the churches in the Stanfield community saw the need for a place of worship for the growing Hispanic population. Through her generous contribution, materials were purchased and its construction was completed by the Stanfield citizens. In 2003, she was nominated for and was the overall winner in Charlotte's WSOC TV Channel 9 contest called, "Nine Who Care". Among those nominated were some of the largest corporations in the Carolinas. Jackie was a serious and dedicated golfer who believed, "you do not play any game for fun". She was President of the Piney Point Ladies Golf Association many times and President of the Carolinas Ladies Golf Association. Jackie's love and compassion for others was obvious in her willingness to help others with whatever their needs. She once said, "it's not that I have so much money or time, it's that I enjoy doing for others". Her ever present smile and positive attitude helped many individuals over the years. A life well lived. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Gene Furr, who died in 1996; sisters, Nancy Carol Morgan Love, Judith Ann Morgan Huneycutt and Della Christine Morgan Brown; brother, Hal Clayton Morgan. She is survived by her husband, Harry Miller Beeker, whom she married in 2001; daughter, Pamela Anita Furr Kleinman and husband, Robert; sons, Bobby Gene Furr, Jr. and wife, Betsy and Michael Nelson Furr; grandchildren, Morgan Leigh Kohout, Jaime Lynn Neary, David Michael Kleinman and eight great-grandchildren.
