Obituary: Andrews Mortuary: obituary of Robert Johnston Rochelle on 19 Mar 2008 in Wilmington, New Hanover, NC. ¹ Robert Johnston Rochelle, 78, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born August 14, 1929, in Pender County, son of the late Willie and Mattie Rochelle. Robert retired after thirty-five years of service with Southern Bell. He was stationed in Korea from 1953-1954 and served thirty years with the Army and Coast Guard Reserve. He was active in the NC Jaycees and Exchange Club, NC Azalea Festival Committee and Telephone Pioneers. He was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church and served as deacon and elder of the church. He was also chief cook and bottle washer for church activities for many years. Robert was very creative with building projects and woodworking, and time spend with friends at Whitey's Restaurant were some of his best memories. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Charlotte of the home; two sons, Rocky Rochelle and wife, Deborah of Wilmington, and David Rochelle and wife, Myra, of Scotts Hill; one grandson, Evan Rochelle; two step-grandchildren, Beth Tew and Jenny Culbreth; his sister, Kathleen Delmonico; and many other special relatives and best friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. Pallbearers will be Evan Rochelle, L.C. Dechent, Tommy Pearce, Clint Conner, Jeff Neely, and Wayne Grimes. Honorary pallbearers are Horace L. Prevatte, Jack Parker, Darryl Bruestle, Richard Mallard, Gerald Watkins, Lucky Swartz, Tom Sheets and friends at Whitey's. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Robert's memory be made to Winter Park Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, NC. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring nurses and doctors in the Special Care Units at NHRMC.
