"He was a very loving and caring individual. He was a very good son to me. Pat Sizer, Christopher Whisenant's mother"
Christopher Whisenant was killed in a car crash last month. His father was also killed in an auto accident.
A Central Florida family is struggling to deal with a tragedy that is all too familiar to them. Christopher Whisenant, 28, of Winter Park died Jan. 31, two days after his car was hit on U.S. High way 17-92 south of Airport Bouldevard near Sanford. He was buried Thursday. It was history repeating itself Whisenant's father died in a car accident in 1990. In both accidents, police reports say, officers suspected the drivers of the other cars had been drinking. Whisenant was heading home from work about 3 a.m. Jan. 29 when he was hit by an other car. The other driver, an 18-year-old Winter Springs man, was driving at speeds of up to 110 mph, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The teen had been drinking, an FHP report said, but no charges have been filed against him. Authorities are waiting for results from a blood-alcohol test, according to the FHP Whisenant was a single father of two young children, daughter, Katelyn, and infant son, Dillon. He is also survived by his mother, Pat Sizer, and sister, Cass. "He was a very loving and caring individual," Sizer said Friday. "He was a very good son to me." Whisenant had just started a job as a security guard at Tri-Star Security in Winter Park. He had been there two weeks, said Dianne Brown, an owner of the business. "He did an excellent job. I wish he was able to be with us longer," she said. Brown said she is concerned about Whisenant's family. "This is the second time this has happened to them," she said. I really feel for them." Whisenant's father, Ray, was killed in 1990 in a hit-and-run accident near Cocoa. Police reports said alcohol might have been a factor in that accident. The other driver, Thomas Daignault, was the son of a founder of the Brevard County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, He was charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. A trust fund has been set up at United American Bank in Longwood. Donations may be made to the Chris Whisenant fund at any United American branch, bank representatives said.
