Obituary: Charlotte Observer: obituary of Larry Wayne Hampton on 28 Sep 2011 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC. ³ CHINA GROVE - Mr. Larry Wayne Hampton, 63, surrounded by his family went to be with his Lord Jesus, peacefully at his home in China Grove on Monday September 26, 2011. Born on May 3, 1948, he was the son of the late Harold Lloyd and Ruth Lunsford Hampton. A graduate of South Rowan High School, he was also a graduate of ECPI. He was employed by McKesson Inc. of Charlotte where he was a computer analyst since 1983. Larry served his country in the US Army from 1967 1970 serving two tours in Viet Nam. Larry was very active in community service serving as Governor of the NC District West Civitan Club from 2000-2001. He served on the Board of China Grove Little League for many years and was very passionate in helping with the Little League ball park. Larry also served as President of the China Grove Civitan Club and has been an acitve member for 20 years. Mr. Hampton served as President of the South Rowan YMCA Board of Directors. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and going to the movies. Mr. Hampton also filled in as a part time teacher for the Rowan County Schools. His survivors include his wife of 40 years, Wadine Wood Hampton, daughter Erin Davis and her husband Preston Davis of Taylorsville. son Airman Preston Hampton, who is currently serving in the United States Navy stationed in Oceana, Virginia., brother Rev. Perry Hampton and wife Marlene of Mocksville, and sisters Deobrah Rufty and Christine Litaker of Kannapolis. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-8 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with service on Wednesday at Main Street Baptist Church at 11:00 with Rev. Billy Beaver, minister.
