She was born August 16, 1937, in Roselawn, Ill., to Kenneth and Phyllis (Hepburn) Stephens, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, Eugene (Emily) Strange of Arlington, Texas, and Marc (Keri) Tarchala of Overland Park, Kansas; daughters Shaun (Richard) Beecher of Martinsville, Ind., Peggy (Charles) Thomas of Chesterton, Ind., and Colleen (Jan) Olstad of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Barney Tarchala; son James Strange and daughter Sherry Strange.
Elizabeth worked as a nurse for Methodist Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chesterton First United Methodist Church, 434 South 2nd Street, Chesterton.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Elizabeth married James Richard Strange on 14 Jun 1958 in Chesterton, Porter, Indiana, United States Chesterton United Methodist Church.¹ (James Richard Strange was born on 25 Jun 1937 in Michigan City, LaPorte, IN ^{4 5} and died on 5 Mar 1988 in Oakland, Alameda, CA ^{4 5}.)

Elizabeth next married Barney Andrew Tarchala on 29 Jun 1974 in Chesterton, Porter, Indiana, United States First United Methodist Church.² (Barney Andrew Tarchala was born on 23 Apr 1928 in Gary, Lake, IN,⁶ died on 8 Nov 2003 in Valparaiso, Porter, IN ⁶ and was buried on 13 Nov 2003 in Arlington: Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA ⁶.)
