3. Newspaper: Daily Local News, 14 Jul 1885, West Chester, Chester, PA. 4 FELL FROM A SWING. An accident occurred in Coatesville on Sunday night last which no doubt will put a stop to swinging for some time to come. A party of young folks were enjoying the evening on the hill near the borough reservoir, where there is a large pole swing erected, and were taking turns in swinging. Among the number was Georgianna Featon, a young girl employed at John Speakman's, but whose home is at Wagontown.
While engaged at swinging and when at the highest point she suddenly became giddy, and letting go the poles she fell backward a distance of about 40 feet, falling on her back and sliding several yards. George McCarron, who was in the swing at the same time, then jumped off and strange to say escaped uninjured. The young lady was picked up and carried to the residence of James Rokes, where she still remains. Dr. Houskeeper was called and says that although no bones were broken she was badly jarred and may be injured internally.
It will be several days before she will be able to be removed. Since the accident the young folks have given up swinging.
