His tombstone at Falckner Swamp Cemetery doesn't give his birth, but does give his death as Sep 16 1850 and his age as 74 yrs 4 months 3 days. That calculates to 13 May 1776 as his birthdate.

  Noted events in his life were:

1. Military: as a sergeant in the War of 1812. 4

2. Occupation: tavern keeper in Limerick, Montgomery, PA. 5 In 1975, the Montgomery County Planning Commission published a book identifying historic structures. One of these involved Dietrich Bucher:

The Lakeside Inn, Kugler Rd. and Ridge Pike. The Brook family owned this early tavern which was constructed c. 1765; it was operated originally by Dietrich Bucher. The tavern was located on a leading turnpike route in Colonial times. Remaining in good condition today, the inn is one of the oldest in continuous operation.

3. He has conflicting birth information of 25 Dec 1778 and Harleysville, Montgomery, PA. 2 3 Many researchers quote this as his date of birth. We report it as an alternate, feeling more secure to go with the birth date on his tombstone inscription. Researchers should continue to explore which is correct.

4. Occupation: postmaster in 1830 in Limerick, Montgomery, PA. 6 Limerick Square is situated nearly in the center of the township, at the junction of the Reading and Colebrookdale, turnpikes, twenty-eight miles from Philadelphia. It contains a post-office, hotel, several stores, manufacturing establishments and machine-shops and about twenty-eight houses. The post-office is called Limerick, and was located here before 1830, Dieter Bucher being at that time postmaster.

5. Census in 1850 in Douglass Twp., Montgomery, PA. 7 Dieter Bucher, 74, was with wife Catherine, 70. Also in their home: Augustus B. Geisenleiner, laborer, 21; and Harriet Faust, 14. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. He had no real estate value.


Dieter married Elizabeth Schneider in 1801.


Dieter next married Catharine Christman in 1806. (Catharine Christman was born about 1780 in , , Pennsylvania, USA 7.)
