1. He was confirmed in 1824 in New Hanover Twp.: Falkner Swamp Reformed Church, Montgomery, PA. 2

2. Tax List: 1834, New Hanover Twp., Montgomery, PA. 1 Noted genealogist William E. Hocker, in doing research on Thomas Bucher for a client, noted: "As to Thomas Bucher, little is on record in the Montgomery County Court House, Norristown. No deed mentioning him is recorded. His will is not on file, nor is there any record of the settlement of his estate."

[Note: apparently Hocker was unaware that Thomas had moved to West Virginia.]

Hocker continues:
"The name of Thomas Bucher, single, appeared for the first time in the tax list for New Hanover Township for 1834, when his tax was 15 cents. The name appeared again in 1835 and 1836, but he was not then described as single. The name was written in the 1837 list and then crossed out. This suggests that about 1836-7 Thomas Bucher left New Hanover Township. Several Bucher and Schmoll families lived in Frederick Township, which adjoins New Hanover. Frederick Township tax lists for this period were also examined, but the name of Thomas Bucher does not appear."

3. Census in 1860 in Kidwell, Tyler, VA. 3 4 Thomas Bucher, age 51, is living with Rebecca, 44; Amanda, 23; George, 21; John, 19; Christian, 18; Frederick, 15; Mortimer, 14; Jefferson T., 11; and Pierce L., 5. The parents were born in Pennsylvania, but everyone else was born in Virginia. Thomas is a farmer and his real estate was valued at $3,000 and his possessions worth $374. The post office is Kidwell.


Thomas married Rebecca Schmoll, daughter of John Schmoll and Unknown, on 20 Dec 1835.1 (Rebecca Schmoll was born on 9 Feb 1816 in , , PA, christened in 1831 in New Hanover Twp.: Falkner Swamp Reformed Church, Montgomery, PA,2 died on 18 Oct 1895 in , Tyler, WV and was buried in Middlebourne, Tyler, WV.)
