1. He immigrated Arrived on ship "Robert and Allice", Martly Cussack, Commandr: Henry Gilbert, Baltzer Gilbert, Bernhart Gilbert on 30 Sep 1743 to Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. 3

2. Bernhardt Gilbert signed the articles to build Benders Lutheran Church. He was later elected to direct the building of the church on 5 Jun 1781. On 7 Apr 1781 in Biglerville: Benders Lutheran Church, Adams, PA. 4

3. Court: Estate of Barnhart Gilbert on 31 May 1831 in Gettysburg, Adams, PA. 1 Orphans Court May 31. 1831 at the valuation made thereof on motion. The Court Grant a Rule on all the heirs legal representatives of said decd. to wit Barny Gilbert who has released Interest in said Estate Susana Intermaried with Barnhart Gilbert whose share is sold to Thaddeus Stevens, Sally Intermarried with Jacob Arendt, Catharine intermarried with Michael Crow, Elizabeth intermarried with Michael Saltzgiver who died before said Jacob leaving Issue Henry, Daniel, Margaret, Michael, Eliza & Sophia Saltzgiver (all minors), Sally intermaried with Jacob HermanDaniel Herr, John Gilbert (eldest son), Jacob Gilbert, George Gilbert, Samuel Gilbert, Sophia intermarried with Jacob Herman, Col., Mary intermarried with David Beecher, More to be & appear at the next Orphans Court to be held at Gettysburg for the County of Adams on the fourth Monday of August next to accept or refuse to take the Real Estate of said Decd. at the valuation made thereof agreeably to the Intestate laws of the Common Wealth.

On June 5, 1781, a building committee comprising Bernhardt Gilbert, Jacob Meel, Nicholaus Diedrich and Jacob Grunemayer was appointed and near the end of the summer a log church was erected on land donated by Henry Bender and his wife Catherine from their 287-acre farm called "Plum Grove." Since its erection the church has been known as "Bender's Church."
The original log church was replaced in 1811 by a colonial brick church.

Christina Walter; Bernhart b 1762 d 1835 mar. 1st Catherine Clapsaddle 2nd Mrs. Mowery; Leonard b 1765 d 1822 mar. Elizabeth Knouse; Henry b 1772 d 1840 mar. Elizabeth Boltz (Foltz); Catherine b 1775 d 1816 mar. Henry Hoffman; Elizabeth mar. Daniel Hoffman; and Christine mar. George Clapsaddle. This family settled in Straban Twp then York now Adams Co. and were members of Bender's church. Barnhart was a Twp. Constable during the Rev. War years. Barnhart and Catherine are both buried in the Bender's Church Cem. Of which he was one of the founders.

Catherine Venderow; Jacob b 1780 d 1852 mar. Rebecca Shoop; and George b 1773 mar. Sarah.
George s/o Barnhart and Catherine (Bender) Gilbert b 1754 d 1803 mar. Elizabeth (Ritter) Knouse and had children, Henry; Eve mar. Conrad Snyder; Polly mar. Mathias Walter; Elizabeth mar. Leonard s/o Barnhart and Catherine (Bender) Gilbert b 1765 d 1822 mar. Elizabeth Krouse buried at Pines Ch. Cem. Had children, Sara b 1797; Elizabeth b 180 [sic]; Anna Maria; Rebecka; Lydia mar. Johnathan Rieman; Catherine mar. Daniel Rex; and Sally.
Henry s/o Barnhart and Catherine (Bender) Gilbert b 1772 d 1840 mar. Elizabeth Boltz (Foltz) and had children, Henrich Jr. mar. Catherine Heitzel; George mar. Hannah Graff; Samuel b 1811 mar. Ann Maria Welsh; David b 1804; Daniel b 1810 mar. Emma ?; John b 1806 d 1880 mar. Lydia ?.
